A visa that entitles the holder to stay in Australia only for a limited period of time

Tourists are generally people who come to Australia to travel, sightsee, participate in leisure activities and/or visit friends or families. This visa allows either a single or multiple entries to Australia for the period of the visa. This visa is for you if you are:
- outside Australia and want to apply for a visa to visit Australia, or
in Australia and want to extend your stay as a visitor.
This Tourist Visa may also be used for other short-term non-work purposes such as study for less than 3 months.
- Paper Applications
Applicants can apply to stay in Australia up to twelve months, or a shorter period.
Please note that the period of stay granted will depend on the purpose of the visit and your personal circumstances.
- Online Applications
Applicants can apply:
- Outside Australia for an initial period of up to twelve months, or a shorter period
- In Australia to extend your stay for a total duration of up to 6 months from the date of last entry on your current visa.
